Casey: A Comeback for the Ages
Casey are at the heart of the Welsh music scene. They’re one of the staple post-hardcore emo bands in Wales, and when they split up in 2019, there was a whole community of fans who were heartbroken. Fast forward to 2023, when they decided to launch their comeback single “Good Grief,” the scene was super excited, as was the entire band.
When we were approached by the band to discuss rebranding and designing their comeback album, we were over the moon. Not only did Casey need an entirely new logo and branding identity to represent the evolution of their music and their comeback, but they needed an entire album campaign that we were super excited to get our hands on. To the Casey fans, this was much more than just an album; it was their first album back after what many people thought was the end of Casey.
After meeting with their frontman, Tom, and discussing what they wanted to achieve, we got sent the demos to the album, which instantly set the tone for what we needed to create for this art piece. We went ahead sketching tonnes of ideas, and coming up with a range of different concepts for the band and their creative director, Martyna Bannister, to choose from.
For their logo and branding identity, we handcrafted two swallows for their logo mark, which is an ode toward one of their first releases and most famous songs, “Little Bird.” The swallows were then paired with a logotype that uses Neue Haas Grotesk.
The album campaign itself and the things we delivered for Casey ranged from artwork for every single, all the way through to the album artwork, which was executed through vinyl (standard and deluxe), CD and, of course, digital. The deluxe vinyl deliverables were one of our favorite parts of the entire project, allowing us to work closely with Tom’s lyrical write-up, paired with Martyna Bannister’s incredible photography, creating a visual accompaniment to the album, a fully designed book. We delivered lyric postcards for each song, as well as inserts for all of the vinyls.
The reception to the album and the artwork that we created was huge and was something that we were immensely proud of sharing not only amongst the Welsh music scene but the post-hardcore scene in general.
